Happy February! How has the month of love treated you so far? So many faces the face of love wears! I hope this post finds you abundantly receiving love from all directions…your people, your family, your friends, your furries, your nature, your dreams. I’m in love with my tarot writing adventures again and formally changing the name for my work. My courses used to go by the name “Wheel of Archetypal Selves,” a title that sprang from my love for the tarot structure and the manner in which the Major Arcana gives us a composite image of the many selves we have the opportunity to develop. But since then, I stumbled upon the beautiful books and Archetype deck of Carolyn Myss.
So there’s no confusion, I’ve renamed my focus, Heart’s Compass Tarot and Writing. The accompanying image is the Fool card I created alongside my students as they made their Fool cards several years ago after we did our inner and outer pilgrimage work to arrive at our symbols. The personal symbol that appeared out of that journey as my inner Fool depicts the heart’s compass. Here it sits, photographed on top of Jung’s Red book, gift of my brother.
So joyfully and blithely was I involved in coloring in my heart with candle aflame at the center that I didn’t realize at first that I put in my compass directions askew. I made new cardinal direction circles and pasted over the old. So silly! But…isn’t it a perfect illustration of being human, foolish, heart open, stepping out into the open sky of creativity…. marrying the whimsical with the earthly, wildly unaware (in my case) where the cardinal directions needed to go?
I’m back on course and my Fool’s compass has brought me to begin work on a Tarot Workbook seeded by the deckmaking courses. The working title so far is: Tarot Butterflies and Other Symbol Stories: Using the Compass of the Heart on Pilgrimage to Create Your Own Cards. I’m hoping to have a sample chapter ready to share at the AWP Conference in Portland at the end of March. I’ll be giving short 3 card readings at the Saddle Road Press table for anyone suffering from writer’s block or related writing questions, so come by and have your cards read. If you wish to join any of my Tarot related adventures you can always visit my Hearts Compass Tarot and Writing Facebook page or my consults page if you are interested in a reading.
A beautiful reason I’ve been inspired joyfully to engage at a deeper level with my tarot work is directly related to starting my yoga practice back up this past December. It has been a powerful salve coming up on the year anniversary of losing my mother. I’m indebted to the studio in Imperial Beach, Yoga with Shawna, and blessed to be reading cards at the San Diego Yoga Festival on March 2 and 3, 2019 in Imperial Beach (hosted and orchestrated by the amazing Shawna and crew) and further blessed to begin reading tarot cards on Sundays at Shawna’s Reiki Clinic. Here’s a link to more information about Sunday tarot readings. Hope to see you there!
