to connect the tarot to your past, present and future. Tarot journaling, a tarot timeline, and discovering living expressions of the tarot in the present world work together to reveal personal symbols for use in meditation, dreamwork, and creation of the student’s own unique cards. Enjoy cards created by other students, heart-based interpretations of traditional and original layouts, and a selection of tarot-inspired poems and essays. Open the riches of the tarot to deepen self-exploration and inspire creative work.
Heart’s Compass Tarot teaches you how to connect the tarot to your past, present and future. Learn to create beginning layouts, team up with a tarot companion, dialogue with your own unconscious, or even write a tarot haiku. Enjoy tarot poems about the Fool, Priestess, Queen of Swords and more. Heart’s Compass Tarot offers an innovative template for a lifetime of tarot improvisation, deepening intuition and awakening the student to joy, wise dreams, and inner gifts waiting to be shared.
I designed the Heart’s Compass Tarot workbook to help you joyfully explore the tarot through tarot journaling as a path to discovering your own symbols, creating personal tarot cards, and seeding new creative work. The book was inspired by over twenty-five years of engaging with the tarot. After experiencing firsthand the ways tarot could illuminate past patterns, present circumstances, and help guide choices aligned with life dreams, I wanted to create a gentle and inviting roadmap for developing an intimate, personal relationship with the cards regardless of the deck being used as a foundation for discovering one’s own symbols.
The beautiful examples of student cards, tarot inspired essays and poetry as well as layouts and exercises will deepen your understanding of your family, your life, and yourself. I invite you to stay in touch by signing up for my monthly newsletter, or join in conversation with me and the many tarot journalers I’ve met on my Heart’s Compass Tarot and Writing Facebook page, or follow me on Instagram @heartscompasstarot where I post tarot news and improvisations (artwork based on tarot cards).
I am indebted to my publishers Ruth Thompson and Don Mitchell at Saddle Road Press and Two Fine Crows Books for their savvy, love, and support. The tarot writing and tarot art classes I teach through Antioch University’s Continuing Education Program, San Diego Writers, Ink, and through my website are based on the heart’s compass approach you’ll find in Heart’s Compass Tarot.
